In the final at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal City Sports Hall in Jeddah, Fedor Gorst claimed his second WPA World 9-Ball Championship title with a 15-14 victory over Eklent Kaci. Gorst, the defending champion from 2019, won by a single rack.
Gorst, known as The Ghost, won the lag and built an early 5-1 lead. He made jump shots on the 2-ball in rack 8 and the 3-ball in rack 13. In rack 15, after Kaci left the 9-ball near the pocket, Gorst made a carom shot off the 3-ball to sink it, extending his lead to 9-6.
Kaci, from Albania, mounted a comeback. After defeating Johann Chua 11-6 in the semifinal with a nine-rack winning streak, Kaci narrowed the gap from multiple deficits in the final. The race-to-15 format remained competitive throughout, with Kaci keeping the match close until the final rack.
The victory marks a significant milestone for the 24-year-old Russian-American, who competes for the United States internationally. Gorst turned professional at age 15 and has won titles including the 2017 WPA World Nine-ball Junior Championship and the 2019 World Championship. The 2024 championship in Jeddah featured a $1 million prize pool with $250,000 awarded to the winner.
The championship was presented in collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport and Matchroom Sport Limited. Gorst's one-rack victory was decided in the final game of the match.
