In the final, Joshua Filler defeated Taiwan’s Jui-An Hsu 10-8 in Hamilton, New Zealand, to capture his first World 8-Ball title. The German player, known as The Killer, won the 8-ball championship to add to his 2018 WPA World Nine-ball Championship title, establishing success across multiple pool disciplines.

The $425,000 tournament awarded Filler the $75,000 winner’s prize while Hsu received $45,000 as runner-up. Filler won the final with a 10-8 match victory. Filler is a three-time Mosconi Cup MVP and former world number one.

For Filler, this victory marks a significant achievement in his career. The 27-year-old from Bönen, Germany, has been a dominant force in professional pool since becoming the youngest China Open winner in 2017. He took up the sport at age seven and has since won world titles across multiple formats, adding this 8-ball championship to his nine-ball and ten-ball accomplishments.

The tournament featured a strong field, with semifinalists including Kun Lin Wu and New Zealand’s Marco Teutscher. Other notable competitors in the bracket included Alexandros Kazakis and Bader Al Awadi. Hsu advanced to the final as a top-level international competitor.

The WPA selected the venue for this event, which drew international 8-ball players at the competitive level.
