Fedor Gorst won the 2024 US Open 9-Ball Championship at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, defeating five-time US Open champion Shane Van Boening 13-10. This was the first all-American final since 1999 and completed what is being called the Gorst Slam.

Van Boening won the lag and broke first. Gorst, the world’s top-ranked player, built an early advantage. After Van Boening’s dry break in the second rack, Gorst took a 3-1 lead.

The match saw momentum shifts throughout. Van Boening battled back from deficits and briefly took a 6-5 lead. However, the 24-year-old Gorst regained control, leveling at 6-6 after Van Boening missed a 3-ball, and pulled ahead through the closing frames.

This victory completes a historic achievement for Gorst in professional pool. He had already captured the WPA World 9-Ball Championship earlier in 2024, defeating Eklent Kaçi 15-14 in Saudi Arabia. Gorst now holds both the sport’s most coveted titles simultaneously. The win also marks redemption from his 2023 US Open final loss to Ko Ping Chung, where he fell 13-6.

Van Boening, 41, remains one of America’s greatest players despite the loss. He had faced Gorst in a grueling race-to-120 match the week prior. Gorst’s path to the final included an 11-6 semifinal victory over former world champion Niels Feijen.

With this title, Gorst has established himself at the top of professional pool. His back-to-back victories in 2024’s major championships demonstrate his dominance in the sport.
