Ko Pin Yi won the 2023 World Pool Masters, becoming the first Chinese Taipei player to win the title with a 13-5 victory over Eklent Kaci in Brentwood, Essex. Ko, known as the Prince of Pool, added another major trophy to his accomplishments as one of the sport’s top performers.
In the final, Kaci won the lag and opened with a break-and-run. Kaci attempted a 6-9 combination in the second rack but missed, allowing Ko to level the match. The early frames were closely contested with both players making mistakes, and Kaci led 4-3 after the opening stages.
Ko took control after Kaci failed to convert on a break attempt. Ko won multiple consecutive racks with strong shooting, building a 7-4 lead and extending it to 9-4 after back-to-back break-and-runs in the 12th and 13th frames. Kaci narrowed the gap to 9-5 but could not recover, missing on the break and then again after Ko’s safe attempt on the six ball, ending his chances.
Ko had a historic 2015 season when he won the World Nine-ball Championship, World Ten-ball Championship, and World Cup of Pool titles in a single calendar year, earning Billiard Digest’s Player of the Year award. The World Pool Masters title, broadcast live on Sky Sports, further demonstrates Ko’s sustained excellence and adds to his legacy as one of Taiwan’s greatest pool ambassadors.
