Jayson Shaw won the 2022 International 9-Ball Open, defeating Poland’s Wiktor Zielinski in the final. The tournament took place at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel from October 28 to November 5. Shaw completed the event without a loss and earned the $30,000 first-place prize.
The tournament featured Diamond 9-foot tables with blue Simonis 860 cloth and Aramith Tournament balls. Racks were positioned with the 9-ball on the foot spot. The event offered a total prize fund of $114,000 and drew an international field of competitors. Accu-Stats provided pay-per-view coverage.
Shaw’s final four opponents included rising star Fedor Gorst and Taiwan’s Pin-Yi Ko. Both players earned $9,000 for their semifinal finishes. The tournament used a single-elimination format starting from the final 16. Shaw is a seven-time Mosconi Cup champion and a former U.S. Open winner, with the nickname Eagle Eye.
Zielinski earned $18,000 as the runner-up, marking a career-high prize payout. Austria’s Albin Ouschan finished in fifth place and received $4,000. Shaw competed only in the winners bracket throughout the tournament.
This victory added to Shaw’s accomplishments, including his 2017 U.S. Open title and multiple Mosconi Cup MVP awards. Earlier in 2022, Shaw set a world record high run of 714 in straight pool. His undefeated performance at the International Open demonstrated his skill among elite 9-ball players.
