The inaugural European Open Pool Championship took place at Hotel Esperanto in Fulda, Germany, with Austria’s Albin Ouschan defeating American Shane Van Boening 13-11 in the final. The two players had faced each other in the 2022 World Pool Championship earlier that year.

Van Boening struggled with the new break rule throughout the tournament. In the final, he scratched multiple times off the break, missing an opportunity to establish control early in the match. Van Boening broke dry or scratched on ten consecutive breaks during the match.

Ouschan won the lag but missed a cut on the two ball, giving Van Boening an early 1-0 lead. The match proceeded with both players trading racks and momentum shifts. Van Boening scratched on the break again in the seventh rack, allowing Ouschan to take control with ball-in-hand.

Ouschan is a two-time World Pool Champion (2016, 2021) and has won the World Cup of Pool in 2017 and 2019. The European Open title, worth $30,000 in prize money, marks his first victory in this newly established tournament.

The tournament was broadcast globally across Sky Sports, DAZN, Viaplay, and Matchroom.Live. Ouschan becomes the first champion in the European Open’s history.
