The Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes hosted the 2021 WPA World Nine-ball Championship final, where Austrian player Albin Ouschan captured his second world title, defeating Kuwait’s Omar Al-Shaheen 13-9.

Ouschan’s victory came five years after his first world championship in 2016. The win earned him the Matchroom Pool World No.1 ranking and marked his second major title of 2021, following his victory at the Predator Championship League Pool in March. Ouschan received the $50,000 winner’s check and had his name engraved on the newly commissioned World Championship trophy for the second time.

The final featured several momentum shifts between the two players. Ouschan won the opening three racks before Al-Shaheen responded with three consecutive racks to tie at 3-3. The next six racks were split evenly as the players traded wins. Al-Shaheen led 7-6 but could not extend his advantage. From down 9-7, Ouschan rallied to tie the match at 9-9, then pulled ahead to reach 12-9.

The championship represented a successful tournament for Austria in Milton Keynes. Defending champion Fedor Gorst of Russia was eliminated early, losing 8-11 to Skyler Woodward in the round of 64. The tournament featured 128 players competing from June 6-10 using a combination of double and single elimination formats.

Al-Shaheen finished as runner-up in the championship. Ouschan’s victory established him among the elite multiple world champions in pool. The following year, he faced Shane Van Boening in an unsuccessful title defense.
