Team Europe defeated the defending champion United States 11-3 at the 2020 Mosconi Cup to reclaim pool’s most prestigious team trophy. Europe took a narrow 3-2 lead after the first session and did not lose another match for the remainder of the tournament.
The tournament was held at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions. After losing the previous two editions, captain Alex Lely’s squad returned to competition. The format featured team matches, doubles, and singles competition, with each match played as a race to five games in the nine-ball discipline.
Jayson Shaw won the tournament’s MVP award after winning every singles and doubles match he contested. The Scottish veteran was supported by contributions from Germany’s Joshua Filler, Russia’s Fedor Gorst, Austria’s Albin Ouschan, and Albania’s Klenti Kaçi.
Team USA made a last-minute roster change when Justin Bergman tested positive for COVID-19, with Corey Deuel joining the squad as his replacement. The American team also included Shane Van Boening, Skyler Woodward, Billy Thorpe, and Chris Robinson.
Europe won the opening day 3-2, shutout Team USA 5-0 on day two, and won 3-1 on the final day. This was Europe’s first Mosconi Cup title since 2017. The 11-3 final margin was Europe’s largest since their 11-2 victory in 2002.
