The 2018 Derby City Classic saw Roberto "Superman" Gomez win the Diamond BIG Foot Challenge. Gomez advanced through the tournament with three consecutive 11-10 victories against elite competition, including wins over Ronnie Alcano and Finland's Mika Immonen, who had closed an 8-4 deficit to force a 10-9 deciding rack.
The final against Russia's Fedor Gorst finished 11-10 in Gomez's favor. Earlier in the tournament, Gomez defeated Germany's Joshua Filler 11-6. The race-to-11 single elimination tournament used an alternate break format where every safety and shot selection carried significant weight.
This victory added a major title to Gomez's resume, though his DCC week produced mixed results across disciplines. While he won the BIG Foot Challenge, Gomez finished 10th in the One Pocket Division, which was won by Francisco Bustamante over Justin Bergman. The Derby City Classic features bank pool, nine-ball, and one-pocket competitions over eight days at Horseshoe Southern Indiana, testing versatility across multiple disciplines.
Gorst finished as runner-up in the BIG Foot Challenge. The 2018 edition of the Derby City Classic took place in Elizabeth, Indiana and featured over $100,000 in added money, attracting top players from around the world.
