Thorsten Hohmann won his second WPA World 9-Ball Championship title at the 2013 tournament in Doha, defeating the Philippines' Antonio Gabica 13-6 in the final at Al Arabi Sports Club. Hohmann joined American legend Earl Strickland as only the second player to claim multiple WPA World 9-Ball crowns.

Hohmann's path to the title included overcoming an early setback. He lost 9-4 to Taiwan's Lo Li Wen in his opening match. The week before the championship, Hohmann had won the World Straight Pool Championship in New York City. He entered the tournament dealing with jet lag and a minor cold but recovered to advance through the losers' bracket.

In the losers' bracket, Hohmann defeated several top competitors, including defending champion Darren Appleton. Hohmann advanced through the tournament with consistent play to reach the final.

The final was played before nearly 1,000 Filipino fans who hoped to see Gabica claim his country's first world title since Efren Reyes. Hohmann's victory came exactly ten years after his 2003 world championship in Cardiff, Wales. The 34-year-old German rose to the world's number one ranking following the win.

The tournament format featured 128 players in 16 groups competing in double elimination before the final 64 advanced to single elimination knockout rounds. The event had $250,000 in total prize money with 48 of the world's top 50 players in attendance. Hohmann earned $36,000 and 1,150 ranking points for his victory.
