The 2010 Mosconi Cup saw Team Europe claim an 11-8 victory over Team USA at York Hall in Bethnal Green. The 17th edition of this annual nine-ball showdown, held December 9-12, extended Europe’s success in the sport’s most prestigious team competition.
Under non-playing captain Johan Ruijsink, Team Europe fielded Ralf Souquet, Mika Immonen, Nick van den Berg, Darren Appleton, and Karl Boyes. Team USA, led by captain Nick Varner, countered with Johnny Archer, Shane Van Boening, Rodney Morris, Dennis Hatch, and Corey Deuel.
The tournament opened with Europe taking an early 2-1 lead in the first session. In the opening doubles match, Dennis Hatch and Rodney Morris defeated Nick van den Berg and Ralf Souquet 6-4. Darren Appleton earned tournament MVP honors for his performances throughout the four-day competition.
The Mosconi Cup, created by Matchroom’s Barry Hearn in 1994, features the best European players against America’s finest in singles and doubles matches. The format follows golf’s Ryder Cup model, with the first team to reach 11 points claiming victory. The event is a major professional pool competition known for competitive play.
