For the first time in nearly two decades, the US Open 9-Ball Championship had a repeat winner, as Mika Immonen successfully defended his 2008 title at the Chesapeake Conference Center. The Finnish player recovered from an early loss and won thirteen consecutive matches to reach the finals.

Immonen lost to Chris Bartram 11-9 in the second round, moving him to the one-loss bracket. Over the next five days, he defeated a series of top opponents to advance to the championship match. His opponents included Thorsten Hohmann, Beau Runningen (while trailing 10-8), Charlie Williams, Chris Bartram again (11-6), Stevie Moore, Rodney Morris, Lee Vann Cortezza, and Donnie Mills.

In the finals, Immonen faced German player Ralf Souquet, who had advanced through the winners' bracket with victories over Huidje See, Moore, Bartram, Corteza, and Mills. Souquet remained undefeated, while Immonen was coming off his extended run through the one-loss side of the bracket.

Immonen won the championship, securing the $40,000 first prize and becoming the first player in nearly 20 years to win the US Open 9-Ball title in consecutive years. The victory added to Immonen's accomplishments, which included the 2001 WPA World Nine-ball Championship and the 2009 WPA World Ten-ball Championship. He had previously finished as runner-up in the 2001 US Open finals against Corey Deuel.
