Recap

Published April 13, 2026

Team Europe defeated Team USA 11-5 at the Hilton Conference Center in Portomaso, Malta, to win the 2008 Mosconi Cup in December. The European team won despite not selecting several world champions for the roster.

Finnish player Mika Immonen was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The European team included German player Ralf Souquet, Dutch player Niels Feijen, Malta's Tony Drago, and British player Mark Gray, with non-playing captain Alex Lely. World champions in 10-ball, 9-ball, and European 9-ball were among those not selected for the team.

Team USA, captained by Nick Varner, featured Earl Strickland, Johnny Archer, Rodney Morris, Jeremy Jones, and Shane Van Boening. The American team fell behind 3-1 on Thursday night and did not recover. Europe won the mixed singles and doubles format competition.

Immonen won his singles match against Jeremy Jones 5-1 in the first session. The European doubles teams performed well throughout the competition. The final 11-5 score reflected Europe's skill and team play in the Mosconi Cup, the sport's premier team competition.
