The 2007 World Pool Masters at the Hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee saw Germany’s Thomas Engert claim his second Masters title, defeating Spain’s David Alcaide. Engert had previously won the Masters in 2004, defeating fellow German Oliver Ortmann. In 2007, Engert earned over $30,000 and solidified his position among Europe’s top pool players.
The tournament featured strong European competition at the Hotel Zuiderduin. Home favorite Niels Feijen had a notable quarterfinal match against England’s Imran Majid. After trailing 3-0 early, Feijen won the match 8-5. Feijen explained that his opponent missed a crucial seven-ball shot in the middle stages, allowing him to take control for the remainder of the match.
Engert’s path to the title continued what had become a strong season for the German player. He had previously won the German Pool Championships 20 times. At the 2007 Masters, Engert faced a field that included some of the world’s best 9-ball players. His victory over Alcaide was significant given Alcaide’s emerging status in international competition and his strong showing to reach the final.
The 2007 Masters victory added to Engert’s accomplishments, which included a 2004 International Challenge of Champions title and multiple European titles. The win demonstrated his consistency on major stages. For Alcaide, reaching the final established him as a growing contender in international pool competition.
