Ralf Souquet won the 2006 World Pool Masters in Egmond, Netherlands, defeating Alex Pagulayan in the final. This was one of Souquet's record six World Pool Masters titles. Souquet is regarded as one of the greatest 9-ball players in history.
Souquet competed against Pagulayan in the final. The German veteran had previously won the 1996 WPA World Nine-ball Championship and became the most decorated player in Matchroom-promoted 9-ball events. His victory in the Netherlands occurred during a successful period in his career, leading toward his eventual induction into the BCA Hall of Fame.
Pagulayan finished as runner-up in this final. The Filipino-Canadian had established himself as one of the sport's elite players, though this loss to Souquet reflected the competitive nature of professional pool at the highest level.
The 2006 World Pool Masters took place during a strong period for 9-ball, with Souquet demonstrating dominance in Matchroom events. He turned professional in 1988 and began playing pool at age six in his parents' pub. Throughout his career, he achieved seven Mosconi Cup victories and over 100 professional tournament wins.
This World Pool Masters victory showed Souquet's continued excellence in his late thirties. The win in Egmond became part of his legacy as a benchmark for consistency and championship-level performance in professional 9-ball competition.
