The 2004 Mosconi Cup was a trans-Atlantic 9-ball competition between Europe and the United States. Held at the Hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee, Netherlands from December 16-19, Team USA won 12-9 over Europe, continuing their success in the early years of this event.
Team USA was captained by Johnny Archer and included MVP Rodney Morris, Earl Strickland, veteran Gabe Owen, Charlie Williams, and Tony Robles. Europe was led by captain Oliver Ortmann and featured Mika Immonen from Finland, Marcus Chamat from Sweden, Steve Davis, hometown player Niels Feijen, and Thomas Engert from Germany.
The tournament used a format of doubles and singles matches over four days. On day three, Team USA maintained their lead. In one doubles match, Johnny Archer and Gabe Owen competed against Oliver Ortmann and Thomas Engert in a close matchup.
Europe competed strongly throughout, with various matchups between the two teams. The Americans started with a 2-0 lead, but Europe tied it 2-2 before the US team pulled ahead. Many matches were decided by narrow margins.
Rodney Morris was named MVP for his performance throughout the tournament. The victory continued American dominance in the event's early years. The 2004 Mosconi Cup demonstrated the high level of play from both teams and established the competition as a major international pool event.
