The 2003 WPBA US Open 9-Ball Championship at the Chesapeake Conference Center was won by Karen "The Irish Invader" Corr, capturing her third major WPBA title in a tournament featuring strong competition among women's professional pool players.

Corr's path to victory included a semifinal match against rising Korean player Ga-Young Kim. Kim, who was making her ESPN television debut, held a 5-2 lead over the #2 ranked Corr. Kim committed consecutive scratches on breaks, allowing Corr to mount a comeback and win the hill-hill match to advance to the finals.

The tournament featured top WPBA talent, with the television rounds showcasing leading names in women's pool. The quarterfinals included veteran Vivian Villarreal against Jeanette Lee, with Lee advancing after winning seven consecutive matches on the one-loss side, including a 9-6 victory over Monica Webb. Villarreal lost to Loree Jon Jones on the winners' side but defeated Jones 9-6 in a subsequent match to earn her TV spot.

For Corr, who moved from Northern Ireland to the United States in 1998 to pursue her professional pool career, this victory was strategically important in her pursuit of the #1 ranking. Already established as one of the game's premier players with multiple World Women's Snooker Championships from her earlier career, the US Open win reduced Allison Fisher's lead in the WPBA standings by 75 points, cutting Fisher's advantage from 185 points.

This triumph contributed to what would become a Hall of Fame career for Corr, who would eventually accumulate 15 Classic Tour titles, four BCA Open titles, and three WPBA National Championships before her induction into the BCA Hall of Fame in 2012. The 2003 US Open demonstrated the competitive abilities that made Corr one of the most respected competitors in professional pool.
