Published April 13, 2026

The 1997 Mosconi Cup saw Team USA capture their fourth consecutive title with a 13-8 victory over Europe at York Hall in London’s Bethnal Green. Both teams featured top players from the sport.

Team USA’s roster included Earl Strickland from North Carolina, Georgia’s Johnny Archer, Kentucky’s Nick Varner, and Mississippi’s Reed Pierce. The Americans also featured Oklahoma’s Kim Davenport and Pennsylvania’s Jim Rempe.

Europe’s lineup included snooker legends Steve Davis and Ronnie O’Sullivan, Germany’s Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann, Finland’s Mika Immonen, and Ireland’s Tommy Donlon.

The tournament format included both singles and doubles matches. The opening session on December 18th featured play between the two teams, with many matches decided by a single game.

Team USA won the match 13-8 despite Europe’s strong roster and competing on home soil. The victory extended USA’s dominance in the early years of the Mosconi Cup, as Europe continued to develop as a competitor.
