The 1995 World Pool Masters at Blackpool's Winter Gardens marked a pivotal moment in pool history, as 23-year-old Daryl Peach won the tournament by defeating Lee Kendall in the final. Peach became the youngest winner in the tournament's history at 23 years and three months old—a record that still stands today.
This was Peach's first professional pool tournament victory. The Castleford native competed on home soil and benefited from strong local support. His success came during a significant year for the event, when Matchroom's tournament expanded from the European Pool Masters to the World Pool Masters, including players from across the globe. Peach would later earn the nickname Dazzler based on his playing style.
The victory launched what would become one of England's most successful pool careers. Later in 1995, Peach earned a spot on Europe's inaugural Mosconi Cup team, helping secure their first-ever victory over the Americans. This double achievement established him as a key player in European pool during its most successful period.
Peach went on to capture the 2007 WPA World Nine-ball Championship, becoming the first British player to win that title. He represented his country in multiple World Cups of Pool and achieved the rare distinction of holding the number one ranking simultaneously in the UK, European tour, and WPA world rankings.
The 1995 World Pool Masters represented a significant changing of the guard in European pool, showcasing emerging talent in the sport. Peach's victory over Kendall in Blackpool marked the beginning of a career that would help elevate British pool on the international stage for decades to come.
