The 1994 World Pool Masters in Doncaster was a significant moment in nine-ball history. German player Ralf Souquet won his first World Pool Masters title, defeating snooker legend Jimmy White in the final. The event showcased the growing international appeal of nine-ball competition.

At just 25 years old, Souquet achieved success on the world stage. Known as The Kaiser, the young German would go on to win a record six World Pool Masters titles throughout his career. His victory over White was notable as a rising pool player defeated one of snooker’s most celebrated figures in what was then called the European Pool Masters.

Jimmy White’s appearance in the final demonstrated the tournament’s growing status across cue sports. The Englishman, who had reached multiple World Snooker Championship finals, brought significant recognition to the event. Souquet’s play proved decisive in the final, establishing him as a leading player in professional pool competition.

This first title launched Souquet’s accomplished career. He won again in 1996 against Vincent Facquet, then added titles in 2000, 2002, 2006, and 2011, making him the tournament’s most successful player. His success in Matchroom-promoted nine-ball events was extensive, with the World Pool Masters standing as his signature achievement.

The 1994 final represented a shift in professional pool, with Souquet’s approach differing from earlier styles of play. The victory launched a career that included over 100 professional tournament wins and eventual induction into the BCA Hall of Fame. For Matchroom Sport, the tournament delivered a compelling result that helped establish nine-ball as a premier televised cue sport.
