The inaugural 1993 World Pool Masters, then known as the European Pool Masters, took place in Plymouth, England. Austrian Werner Duregger won the first title, defeating Germany’s Ralf Souquet in the final. The tournament would eventually expand to become nine-ball’s most prestigious invitational event.

Souquet did not win this inaugural edition but went on to capture a record six World Pool Masters titles throughout his career. His most recent triumph came in 2011 when he defeated defending champion Dennis Orcollo of the Philippines.
