The 1985 US Open 9-Ball Championship took place at Q-Master Billiards in Virginia Beach from November 5-10th. Hippie Jimmy Reid won the title and $7,800 prize. Reid, a road player from Ontario who competed in the Johnston City tournaments of the 1960s, defeated an international field to claim the championship.

The final matched Reid against Puerto Rican veteran Mike Lebrón, age 51 at the time of competition. Lebrón finished as runner-up and earned $3,900. Reid won the championship match to secure first place.

The tournament featured notable players including Efren Reyes, who finished third and earned $1,950. Earl Strickland and Mike Sigel both finished tied for fifth place, while Keith McCready rounded out the top eight.

Reid, also known as Diamond Jim, began his billiards career in rooms in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The 1985 US Open championship represented a major achievement in his career as a top-level player during an era when road players competed for significant prize money.
