Jean Balukas won the 1984 WPBA US Open 9-Ball Championship. She turned professional at age 10 in 1969 and had accumulated multiple championship titles by 1984.

Balukas won world straight pool titles in 1977, 1978, 1980, 1982, and 1983. She won the nine-ball world championship in 1988. The US Open title showed her ability to compete successfully in different pool formats.

Balukas excelled in both nine-ball and straight pool throughout her career. Billiards Digest ranked her as the fifteenth greatest player of the 20th century. She won five Billiards Digest Player of the Year awards, establishing herself as a top female competitor in the sport.

The 1984 championship victory was a notable achievement in women's professional nine-ball. Balukas was later inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame as the youngest inductee and only the second woman to receive the honor.
