Frank "The Gray Fox" Taberski won his final world title in 1928, defeating Arthur Woods. This victory was his 14th world championship. Taberski was from Schenectady.

By 1928, Taberski was already established in the sport. He had won 10 consecutive challenge matches by 1918. The challenge match system of the era featured 450-point contests.

Arthur Woods faced Taberski after the champion had temporarily retired in 1918. Taberski returned to competition in 1925 and reclaimed the world title from Ralph Greenleaf. After seven years away, Taberski competed again at a high level. His highest recorded run was 238 balls.

Taberski turned professional in 1915 at age 26 after attending a pocket billiards championship in New York City. He was a former milk delivery man from Schenectady who practiced pool regularly since age 13. His career took place during the era of the World Straight Pool Championship, the most prestigious tournament in professional billiards.

Taberski's 1928 victory over Woods was his last major triumph. His 14 world titles demonstrated his dominance during an era of challenge matches and competitive play.
